Plenary sessions will feature local, state and national leaders exploring new ways of thinking about employment and provide new insights and inspiration on how to achieve our goal of doubling integrated employment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by the year 2015.  Click here for a list of Plenary Session Speakers.  Additional plenary session speakers are being added.

The highlight of the Summit will be an interactive Town Hall presentation. Moderated by Frank Sesno, former CNN Special Correspondent, the Town Hall will be a challenging and frank look at what is needed to make integrated employment a reality for all including discussions of sub-minimum wage, employment first, integrated and group employment and the barriers that keep us from reaching our goals. Included will be a segment on what employers want the disability community to know about how to increase integrated employment opportunities. Attendees will have the chance to voice opinions, ask questions, and vote on the topics discussed.

Breakout Sessions provide information on implementing best practices, leading systems change, understanding innovations, and working with employers and communities.  During these sessions there will be plenty of opportunity for questions and conversation and will feature perspectives of self advocates, employers, policy leaders, researchers and service providers.

Special Sessions include a Technology Showcase, Employment Tip Sessions run by and for Self Advocates, and Discussion Roundtables.

At the closing session of the Summit, attendees will commit collectively and individually, to the actions that they will take to make AFP's goal of doubling integrated employment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities a reality by 2015.

Throughout the Summit, AFP will also offer several opportunities for individual consulting, networking and idea sharing sessions:

  • AFP Listening Post:  A chance for self advocates and other attendees to tell their employment stories and to speak about the importance of employment in their lives.
  •
  • State Team Idea Exchange:  State teams will present their current initiatives and will conduct newtorking and strategic planning sessions.
